In case I'm not back before the big day, I'd like to go ahead and wish everyone a very merry Christmas!
Yesterday Moon was feeling very frisky. She bounced around the ring like a circus horse and kept doing this little half rear every time I asked her to reverse direction. (I wasn't riding her at the time--that would NOT have been cute and adorable!) She even stopped traffic as a van paused for the driver to watch her. Then she pulled up an old weed and started spinning it around like a lasso--I'd never seen her do that before. Some horses like to twirl lead ropes if they can get them in their mouths, but Moon has never been one to play with *things* as long as I've had her. I think the Quarter Horses she lives with are getting lazy in the cold weather, whereas she spent the first 10 years of her life in Pennsylvania, so I guess weather in the 30s is time to party for her!
I've been celebrating the end of student papers for the year by reading actual books! So far I've read Agatha Christie's "Nemesis" and Kai Meyer's "The Water Mirror." Nemesis was nice, light fun. The Water Mirror was a wildly imaginative YA fantasy--loved the flying stone lions, magic mirrors, mummy armies, and MAGICAL VENICE!! However, toward the end some of the religious elements started to bother me somewhat. Even though I'm a very strong fantasy loving Christian, I can get a bit particular when "real world" religion gets mixed in with fantasy. I just started reading "The Dante Club," which I picked up because I love a nice mixture of the classics and murder ;) (And the title reminded me of one of my favorite books I've read in the past 3 years "The Club Dumas.") The first little bit has been a bit gruesome for Christmas reading, so I may set it down for a couple of days. I have "Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town" on hand and I may run though it first. This book has perhaps the wildest summary I've ever read--http://www.amazon.com/Someone-Com es-Town-Leaves/dp/0765312786 . I hope the craziness is as much fun as it sounds like!
And Sanctuary fans, be sure you check out the ficlet by Tiwtin where Will finds out about Helen and Tesla http://tiwtin.livejournal.com/25894.htm l. I know I'll be giggling about static for the next several days :) The Tesla fandom seems to have put out several fanvids and I'm looking forward to checking them out after Christmas. (Computer issues...) And a question about Helen--how soon after injecting the Source blood did she find out about her longevity? Was it somehow discovered right away or were there a few years of the boys all going, "Boy, you sure got the short end of the stick!" ? I can't remember if this has been addressed in the show and I'm very curious about this point!
